150th Commemoration of the Dred Scott Case

Open now through December of 2008, special exhibits and programs will showcase Roswell Field’s pivotal role in the famous Dred Scott case. This is in special recognition of the 150th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision Scott v. Sandford.

The nearly two year-long exploration incorporates three major initiatives: Advocates for Freedom, the Dred and Roswell Story, incljuding Roswell’s personal Study on the second floor; Free and Slave Children – Contrasts and Comparisons, which provides an interactive learning experience for children and adults by demonstrating the vast social, educational and cultural differences between urban slave children and free children; and Narrative Voices, a Dred Scott Multimedia Experience, featuring a dramatic account of the Dred Scott case narrated by Dred's great-granddaughter Lynne Jackson.
